Remembering Bill
It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we are announcing the passing of William H. Carlsen (Bill). He passed away in a tragic side by side ATV accident on June 27, 2020.
Bill’s title was Western Operations Manager at Flatirons Drilling, a small family owned company to the Directional Drilling industry. For 30 years Bill had an amazing career in the drilling and underground utility industry. He made an impact on everybody he met throughout his career by learning, experiencing, teaching, and inspiring hundreds of people.
Bill started in the early 90’s at Drake contracting as a laborer during the construction of DIA. He was introduced to drilling when Drake bought their first drill and branched out to the HDD world. Bill was able to see the future potential of the drilling industry, and in the mid 90’s made a decision to start his own business Carlsen Contracting. After seeing success as a small business owner, he went on to work in the corporate world. Bill ran large scale operations for high profile companies such as Danella (Counties Corporation), MasTec, Infrasource, Kelly Cable (Sitewise), Elkhorn, & Wood Group. Bill also worked at a few small-midsized companies such as LDD construction, Fibernet (Hereford construction), and ultimately ended his career most recently at Flatirons Drilling.
For the last 15 years Bill has worked off and on at Flatirons Drilling. He has been a pivotal part and at times the heartbeat of Operations for Flatirons Drilling for a total of 10 years. Bill and the ownership/management at Flatirons had what you could best describe as a love-hate relationship. It got to the point at Flatirons where management and Bill almost looked forward to the next “quit-fire”. When Bill would come back after a “quit-fire” he would be unstoppable. He had a stronger and more driven outlook ultimately pushing himself and the company to do and be better. Bill was amazing at what he did and is irreplaceable in the Directional Drilling industry.
To know and Love Bill was to know and love his great and not so great qualities. He was all heart and as soon as he considered you a friend, he would always be there for you. He took people for what they were and always found the good in them regardless of their past. He was the first to give people a second chance whether they felt they deserved it or not. Bill was quick witted, funny, and loved to laugh. He would be the first person to give you some sort of nickname whether you wanted it or not. We like to believe this was his way of breaking the ice. He loved to ride his Harley with his wife and one of his favorite events to ride in was the realities ride for children in northern Colorado. When he wasn’t out riding the bike, he loved to go for a cruise in his GTO or just hang out with his family. Bill will be dearly missed by all who knew him as a person, a friend, a mentor, and a Brother.

Bill leaves behind his beautiful wife Jamie, 6 kids, and 4 grandkids. He would have bent over backwards for any of these people listed as they were his heart and reason. Bud Carlsen, Brandon Carlsen, Brady Carlsen, Shelsey Carlsen, Adrian Harrington, Taylor Harrington, Brooklynn Carlsen, Adalynn Carlsen, Rayden Harrington, and Hayden Harrington.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the untimely tragic loss of Bill, there are many unexpected expenses including, substantial medical costs associated with Flight for Life and ambulance services that were dispatched to Seminoe Reservoir. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please see the Go Fund Me page. This fund is being established to help the family during this time of grief and to help cover the above-mentioned cost. Bill had worked so hard to provide for his family and those he loved and would be devastated if everything he worked for was taken away.

Please remember to Buckle up...
RIP BROTHER
